Millions are ready to work. What they are missing is training, and a chance. Where skilling happens, poverty falls. That is the whole idea behind Garibi.

Why “Garibi”
A name that names the enemy.
Garibi (गरीबी) is the Hindi word for poverty. The name was chosen on purpose: to defeat something, you first have to be willing to say its name, and to believe it can be beaten.
Garibi is a philanthropy, not a business. Poverty is not treated here as a fixed fact of life; it is what happens when people are left without skills, work and dignity. So Garibi will not give handouts. It will give people a real trade, and the chance to build a life with it.
Founded in India and working globally, Garibi is being built to connect people who are ready to learn with free training and the lasting dignity of work.

Training changes a life only when the rest is in place too. Garibi is being built to lead with skilling, then surround it with the support that turns a course into a career. Every programme below is planned; none is running yet.

The biggest barrier for informal workers is not only skill. It is that no one can see it. The Skill Passport is being designed to change that: a simple, verified record of every skill a learner earns, ready to share with any employer.

India shows what focused effort can do. Garibi exists to push that further, by closing the skills gap that holds families back.
- Poverty more than halved in IndiaThe national multidimensional poverty headcount fell from 29.17% in 2013-14 to 11.28% in 2022-23. (NITI Aayog, 2024)
- The skills gap is the next frontierWith about 4% of working-age Indians formally trained, every learner skilled is a household lifted. That is Garibi's whole focus. (PLFS 2023-24)
- Rural lives change fastestRural multidimensional poverty fell from 32.59% to 19.28% between 2015-16 and 2019-21. (NITI Aayog, National MPI progress review 2023)
